In a remarkable feat, England’s 20-year-old off-spinner Shoaib Bashir became the second youngest bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in Test cricket for the Three Lions. On the third day of the fourth Test against India, Bashir’s spell included dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akash Deep. He bowled 44 overs, conceding 119 runs with eight maiden overs. Bashir’s achievement follows leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who recorded a similar feat at the age of 18 against Pakistan in 2022.
