Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Appointed Next Army Chief of India , To Serve Till August 31, 2028

New Delhi, June 15, 2026 [VoM News]: Lt General Dhiraj Seth has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) by the Government of India.

The Ministry of Defence issued an official statement regarding the approval of the new Army Chief by the President of India.

The appointment will come into effect from June 30, 2026.

Lt General Dhiraj Seth will succeed Upendra Dwivedi, whose tenure as Army Chief concludes later this month.

Lt General Seth has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). He will assume the rank of General upon taking charge as the head of the Indian Army.

Officials said General-designate Dhiraj Seth is expected to serve as the Army Chief until August 31, 2028.
