Violence in Northwestern Nigeria: 17 Farmers Killed, 13 Injured as Insecurity Persists
Nigeria, June 14, 2026 [VoM News]: Nigeria has witnessed another deadly attack by armed gangs involved in killings, abductions, and extortion, mainly targeting farmers and affecting agricultural activities in several regions. The sharp rise in recent attacks has also triggered criticism of the Nigerian government over its failure to tackle insecurity, armed violence, and kidnappings across parts of the country.
In the latest incident, at least 17 farmers were killed and 13 others injured after armed gunmen attacked people working in agricultural fields in Zamfara State in northwestern Nigeria.
According to AFP, the gunmen opened fire on farmers while they were engaged in agricultural work in Goron Namaye village in the Maradun area. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Sanusi Dosara said the violence followed the state government’s refusal to negotiate with bandit groups responsible for repeated attacks and kidnappings. He called for an intensive crackdown against the gunmen and those sheltering them.
Recently, dozens of people gathered for a peace meeting aimed at reducing violence, abductions, and extortion were also abducted in the same region, raising further concerns over the deteriorating security situation in northwestern Nigeria.
Locals alleged that the Nigerian government has so far failed to curb the deadly attacks and that only assurances are being given. They warned that if the situation is not addressed effectively, it could lead to a humanitarian crisis.
