No Waters from Indus River System Will Be Allowed to Pakistan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Makes Position Clear
New Delhi, June 13, 2026 [VoM News]: The Central Government had earlier warned Pakistan of serious consequences for harbouring terrorism, which led to the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that waters from the Indus River System would not be allowed to benefit countries that support and harbour terrorism.
Addressing an intellectual meet in Hyderabad, Rajnath Singh said that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demonstrated how to respond to those who harbour terror and do not understand the language of peace. He said Operation Sindoor was evidence of that approach.

Rajnath Singh made it clear that India’s position on the Indus Waters Treaty remains unchanged and that the treaty is currently under abeyance.
“We will not allow the waters of the Sindhu River to benefit patrons of terrorism and enemies of humanity,” the Defence Minister said.
