India Extends Helping Hand to Gaza Amid Escalating Tensions
In a remarkable gesture of solidarity, India has dispatched 38 tonnes of food and vital medical supplies to the beleaguered Gaza Strip, which has been enduring relentless retaliatory airstrikes from Israel. Ambassador R. Ravindra, serving as the Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to the United Nations, conveyed India’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid during the UN Security Council’s open debate on the “situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.”
A Ray of Hope Amidst the Chaos
The crisis in Gaza has reached a critical juncture as Israel’s continuous bombardment has led to severe casualties. The latest escalation began with a Sabbath attack on October 7 when Hamas launched a barrage of over 5,000 rockets towards Israel. India unequivocally condemned this act of terror. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first world leaders to offer condolences for the lives lost and express prayers for the victims and their families.
India Advocates Peace and Humanitarian Assistance
Ambassador Ravindra stressed India’s unwavering support for peace in the region. He emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation and the resumption of direct negotiations to restore stability. The fragile nature of the ceasefire was once again highlighted in the wake of increased hostilities. India has not only stood in solidarity with Israel during their moment of crisis but also expressed deep shock at the tragic loss of lives at Al Hali hospital in Gaza, where hundreds of civilians were casualties.
The humanitarian crisis continues to mount, underscoring the necessity for immediate action. India welcomes international efforts to de-escalate the situation and deliver essential aid to Gaza. India reaffirms its support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel. The emphasis remains on resuming direct peace negotiations to address the ongoing turmoil effectively.
In these challenging times, India remains committed to extending humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine. This ongoing support reflects India’s dedication to alleviating the crisis and fostering peace in the region.
