Heavy Rainfall and Flooding in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province Result in Nine Deaths
Nine people, including children and women, have lost their lives due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the Greshk and Kajaki districts of Afghanistan’s Helmand province.
The incident occurred on Thursday night in the Abghol area of the Kajaki district, where seven members of a family, including one man, four women, and two children, lost their lives due to severe flooding.
On Friday night, a woman and a child died, and another was injured when a house roof collapsed in the same district. The disaster has claimed the lives of 70 people and caused material losses in various provinces of Afghanistan, as reported by the Taliban-led Ministry of Disaster Management.
The United Nations Office in Afghanistan has pledged to provide permanent housing for those impacted by the floods to address their urgent needs. The Taliban-led Ministry of Disaster Management reported that 235 houses have been destroyed and 600 heads of cattle have been killed due to recent floods.
