CPEC Exposed as Flood Relief Aid Fails to Reach Gwadar: Baloch Rights Organization

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) faced exposure as relief aid failed to reach flood-affected people in Gwadar, challenging the portrayed narrative of development and prosperity. Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a Baloch rights organization, highlighted the grim reality in a social media post, emphasizing that Gwadar has become a symbol of exploitation, despair, and suffering despite being a central node in the multi-billion-dollar CPEC.

    Destructive Impact on Local Lives

The BYC noted that purported developmental initiatives over a decade have destroyed the lives of Gwadar’s inhabitants. Mega-projects, including those under the CPEC, were identified as principal catalysts exacerbating the impact of floods. The organization linked the sufferings of the local population to the state’s “Baloch Genocidal Policies.”

    Prominent Baloch Leader’s Message

In a video message shared by the BYC, prominent Baloch leader Maharan Baloch emphasized that billions worth of infrastructure, touted as development, are now contributing to people’s suffering during floods. She highlighted the major climate changes and dangers faced by the people who have lived on the land for centuries.

Call for Support and Criticism of Authorities

Maharan Baloch urged people to support flood victims and criticized the authorities for their lack of assistance. She highlighted the absence of official help and called on doctors and nurses from Balochistan to assist with treatment. The message underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the destruction of the city and the displacement of people due to the so-called development projects.

    Humanitarian Appeal Amid CPEC Criticism

The BYC’s social media post and Maharan Baloch’s message serve as a critique of the CPEC’s impact on local communities, especially in the face of natural disasters. The organization’s call for support reflects the humanitarian challenges faced by the flood-affected population in Gwadar.
