Australian cricket veteran David Warner has officially announced his decision to bid farewell to the sport after the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. Warner shared this news after leading Australia to an 11-run victory against West Indies in the initial match of the three-game T20I series at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Having previously retired from ODIs and Test cricket, Warner disclosed his decision to step away from the 50-over format on January 1. His final Test appearance occurred on January 6, where he garnered widespread acclaim for his outstanding performance, contributing significantly to Australia’s triumph over Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

In his 100th T20I for Australia, a milestone that places him among the select few cricketers to achieve over 100 appearances in each international format, Warner played a pivotal role in Australia securing a 1-0 lead against West Indies. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand, so it’s important we win there as well.”

Warner, awarded the Player of the Match, outlined his desire to conclude his international cricket journey on a high note at the T20 World Cup in June. If Australia manages to secure the T20 World Cup title, Warner will retire as a world champion across all formats. His recent successes include being part of the team that clinched the World Test Championship title in June and the 2023 ODI World Cup in November.

Australia finds itself grouped with England, Namibia, Oman, and Scotland in Group B of the 2024 T20 World Cup. The team’s campaign kicks off on June 6 against Oman.
