Yashasvi Jaiswal Record-Breaking Double Century Rescues Team India in Test Series Victory
In a remarkable display overshadowing England’s ‘Bazeballers,’ young cricket sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered a career-defining performance, bringing Team India back to parity in the ongoing five-match Test series. Jaiswal, who has seamlessly adapted to Test cricket, earned praise from the legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar following India’s dominant victory over Ben Stokes and his team in the 2nd Test at Vizag.
The Hyderabad opener, Jaiswal, showcased his prowess by smashing a record-setting double century, complemented by speedster Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional reverse swing-bowling skills. This collective effort ensured that Virat Kohli-less Team India emerged victorious after a setback in the opening innings in Hyderabad.
Jaiswal’s spectacular double ton was followed by a return-to-form innings from Shubman Gill in the second innings. Gill’s century played a pivotal role in setting a match-winning target against England. Reflecting on India’s batting performance, former skipper Gavaskar highlighted Jaiswal’s crucial contribution in rescuing India in Visakhapatnam.
Achieving his career-best score of 179 on the first day of the 2nd Test, Jaiswal went on to secure his maiden double century against England. Gavaskar commended Jaiswal’s rapid learning curve, stating, “Yashasvi Jaiswal showed he is a quick learner by making sure he didn’t miss out on a hundred as he did in the first Test match by scoring a magnificent double century in the second Test.”
In Team India’s 106-run victory over England, Jaiswal’s exceptional knock of 209 off 290 balls included seven sixes and 19 fours. At 22, he became the third youngest Indian to achieve a Test double century. Jaiswal’s teammate Gill, with the second-highest score in India’s 1st innings, played a crucial role in the team’s success.
Jaiswal’s feat in joining legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara in an exclusive club was noteworthy. Both Lara and Jaiswal managed to score a double century when none of their teammates crossed the 34-run mark in a Test innings, showcasing their individual brilliance.
Commenting on the changing dynamics of cricket, Gavaskar remarked on the potential impact of T20 cricket on players’ temperament. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in Test cricket, acknowledging that game-changing innings, like those witnessed from Jaiswal, have the power to define and alter the course of a match.
