Shahjahanpur (UP) witnessed a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday when a notorious criminal, Sahwaz (35), met his demise in a fierce police encounter while attempting to escape from police custody. This shocking incident followed a gruesome crime in which Sahwaz had killed Alok Kumar Gupta (36) and caused grievous injuries to several members of Gupta’s family, including two women and three children.
Rampage in Katra: A Tragic Prelude
The horrifying chain of events began in Katra, where Sahwaz, fueled by the intention of committing robbery, forcibly entered the residence of Alok Kumar Gupta. The result was tragic, as he not only took the life of Alok Kumar Gupta but also unleashed violence upon Gupta’s family members. This brutal act sent shockwaves through the community.
A Desperate Bid for Freedom
Following his arrest earlier in the day, Sahwaz was being transported to a local court by law enforcement authorities. However, fate had other plans. As the police vehicle approached Batlaiya village, an unexpected obstacle presented itself: a group of cattle suddenly blocked the path. In the chaos that ensued, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to a collision.Seizing this momentary chaos as an opportunity, Sahwaz made a daring move. He wrested the pistol from sub-inspector Hitesh Tomar and attempted to make a daring escape. In a desperate bid for freedom, he opened fire at the police team, setting off a deadly exchange of bullets.
Justice Served: Criminal Meets His End
The fierce exchange of gunfire ended with Sahwaz being fatally shot on the spot. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed his demise and commended the police team for their swift and courageous response by awarding them a reward of ₹75,000.
Aftermath: Victims Undergo Treatment
As the dust settled, the extent of Sahwaz’s brutality became apparent. He had ruthlessly attacked multiple members of Alok Kumar Gupta’s family, leaving them severely injured. Alok Kumar Gupta’s wife, Khushbu, father Sudhir Gupta, brother Prashant Gupta, along with his wife Ruchi Gupta and their three children, all fell victim to Sahwaz’s sharp-edged weapon. Presently, they are all receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Bareilly.
This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in their pursuit of justice. It also highlights the need for heightened security measures during the transportation of dangerous criminals, ultimately ensuring the safety of both the public and law enforcement personnel.
