Charge Sheet Filed Against Couple for Alleged Rs 3.25 Lakh Fraud on Udhampur Company
The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch, Jammu, has submitted a comprehensive 224-page charge sheet against a couple accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme resulting in a Rs 3.25 lakh defrauding of M/S Mahajan Agency, an Udhampur-based company specialized in fast-moving consumer goods trading, reported The Tribune.
The alleged ploy, executed in 2020 through M/s Sai Agro Food Industry in Varanasi, involved enticing Mahajan Agency with a fictitious order for 500 product units, eventually swindling them of over Rs 3,25,000.
An official speaking to The Tribune revealed, “Munish and Babita jointly devised this fraudulent scheme to lure innocent traders like the complainant into placing orders and extracting money.”
Prompted by a complaint, an in-depth investigation ensued, collecting material evidence, documentary records, and statements from relevant parties. The inquiry affirmed that the accused deliberately and with criminal intent cheated and duped the complainant.
Despite obtaining anticipatory bail, the accused failed to comply with court-ordered investigations, resulting in the cancellation of their bail. The Crime Branch, dissatisfied with their non-cooperation, conducted raids, culminating in the submission of a final report to the court.
Munish Verma, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, along with his wife Babita, face charges under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code for their alleged involvement in this fraudulent act.
