Rupee Appreciates Marginally Against US Dollar Amid Positive Market Trends
The Indian rupee exhibited a slight recovery, appreciating by 2 paise to 83.32 against the US dollar in morning trade on Tuesday. This improvement comes after the local currency opened at 83.33 a dollar, a slight increase from its previous close of 83.34, and follows a period of record low closings.
The rupee’s recovery is attributed to the weakening of the American currency in the overseas market, as indicated by the dollar index falling 0.21% to 103.21. Additionally, the positive trend in domestic equities has contributed to the rupee’s marginal appreciation.
Recent Performance of the Rupee
The rupee had closed at 83.34 against the dollar on Monday, matching its record closing low, amid sustained dollar demand. Forex and bullion analyst Gaurang Somaiya anticipates a sideways movement for the USDINR pair, expecting it to fluctuate within the range of 83.05 and 83.40.
The dollar index continues to decline, with market focus on the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes for insights into the Federal Reserve’s interest rate stance. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were trading 0.40% lower at $81.99 per barrel, impacting global and domestic market sentiments.
Equity Market Trends and FII Activities
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty showed gains, further influencing the currency market. However, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market, offloading shares worth ₹645.72 crore on Monday, which might impact market dynamics and currency valuation.
