Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s arrival in New Delhi marks a significant step in the ongoing India-Australia bilateral relations. She is set to co-chair the second India-Australia 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, alongside Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles.
Warm Welcome and Agenda of the Dialogue
Wong was warmly welcomed at the Air Force Station, Palam, in New Delhi. The dialogue, which also includes the 14th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue, promises a comprehensive discussion on various aspects of the India-Australia partnership.
Participation of Indian and Australian Leaders
The dialogue will be co-chaired by Wong and Marles from the Australian side and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from India. This high-level engagement underscores the deepening ties between the two nations.

Marles emphasized India’s status as a top-tier security partner for Australia and highlighted the practical and tangible actions underpinning their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. 2023 witnessed several firsts in the India-Australia defence relationship, including an Indian submarine visit to Perth and Australia’s hosting of Exercise Malabar. These developments demonstrate the strengthening of defence and security partnerships.

Foreign Minister Wong highlighted the central role of the India-Australia partnership in the stability and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region. The nations’ cooperation extends to defence, security, renewable energy, and technology, reflecting a commitment to shaping a resilient and inclusive region.
