Vaibhav Gehlot Appears Before ED in Foreign Exchange Violation Case
In a recent development, Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, presented himself before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday, responding to a summons in connection with the alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999. He arrived at the central agency headquarters at approximately 11:30 am.
The ED’s summons are related to the recent raids conducted against Rajasthan-based hospitality group Triton Hotels & Resorts Pvt. Ltd., Vardha Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., and its directors and promoters, including Shiv Shankar Sharma and Rattan Kant Sharma. During a search operation last month, the ED seized a total of ₹1.2 crore in cash in connection to this case. The investigation centers around the alleged investment from Mauritius in the hotel group during 2007-2008.
Vaibhav Gehlot is expected to face questioning regarding his associations with Rattan Kant Sharma. His father, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, had previously dismissed the allegations by explaining that his son solely owns a taxi company in which Sharma was a partner, and they now operate independently.
Ashok Gehlot expressed his concerns about the credibility of central agencies and the overall situation, stating, “Central agencies have no credibility now. It is a worrying situation. This is not about my son or the state Congress president (Govind Singh Dotasra). Aatank macha rakha hai desh mein (they have spread terror in the country).”
This development underscores the ongoing investigations into financial irregularities and foreign exchange violations within certain business entities in Rajasthan.
