Venezuela, June 26, 2026 [VoM News]: The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 235, with authorities confirming that several foreign nationals are among those killed.
Brazil’s foreign ministry said two Brazilian citizens-a man and a woman-lost their lives in the disaster. The ministry added that it is providing consular assistance to their families.
Italy confirmed the death of an Italian-Venezuelan dual national in his mid-50s.
According to Rome, he was killed when a building collapsed in the heavily affected La Guaira region. Italy estimates that around 170,000 Italian passport holders live in Venezuela. Chinese authorities also confirmed that two Chinese nationals died in the earthquakes. China’s embassy in Caracas urged its citizens to remain alert for aftershocks and other secondary hazards, according to state media.
Portugal’s foreign ministry said one Portuguese citizen was killed.
The victim was reportedly rescued alive from the rubble but died while being transported to hospital. Rescue operations continue across the affected areas as emergency teams search for survivors and assess the full extent of the destruction caused by the powerful earthquakes.
