    Eight Killed in Coal Truck Ramming Band Party Van in Ramgarh, Jharkhand

    RAMGARH, June 26: Eight persons died in the district on Thursday night when a coal-laden truck hit a van full of members of a band party, police said.

    The accident took place in the Barlaung Budhbazar locality under Rajrappa Police Station late at midnight when the truck collided with the van. Seven persons died in the spot and another person died later in the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), taking the toll to eight.

    The deceased, inhabitants of Marangmarcha and Balsagra village of Ramgarh district, were heading for a programme.

    The collision, which happened on the road for about the last six hours, damaged the van from where few of the victims of band party, could be pulled out by few villagers.

    After the accident, villagers blockaded the Ramgarh-Bokaro road for several hours protesting against the repeated deadly road accidents in the district and blamed the district administration.

    After the interference by police personnel, the road was opened and the road traffic forbokaro was resumed. The chief Minister, Jharkhand Hemant Soren and union minister of State Santosh Kumar Gangwar have expressed sorrow over the deaths.

    The two vehicles were seized by the Police, while the truck driver managed to flee and had not been caught till reports came in, and a case had been registered.
