Iranian Drone Attack Damages Commercial Singaporean Ship in Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions Over Shipping Routes

Iranian Drone Attack Damages Commercial Singaporean Ship in Strait of Hormuz Amid Tensions Over Shipping Routes

DUBAI, June 26, 2026 [VoM News] : A cargo ship carrying the Singaporean flag was targeted with a drone in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, with a U.S. Official blaming Tehran for the attack.

The vessel’s bridge was damaged, though no injuries were reported.

The commercial vessel was moving along a new shipping lane created to guide ships through the narrow passage, a corridor blessed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Oman to ensure safe navigation. Just hours before the attack, Iran said that ships that don’t comply with Tehran’s maritime policies would have to guarantee their own security on transit corridors.

Thursday’s incident has renewed worries about the safety of maritime shipping in one of the most important waterways globally, as approximately a fifth of the world’s oil traffic is routed through the strait. The IMO’s coordination ship was temporarily paused in response while it reviews the safety of its maritime corridor.

The latest attack comes despite previous assurances made earlier this month by Iran to fully restore commercial shipping to the Strait of Hormuz and is the latest example of maritime insecurity that often affects global energy markets and is largely viewed by traders as the primary concern going forward for crude oil.
