Record Seizure of Rs 243 Crores in Telangana Amid Model Code of Conduct
Telangana has witnessed a record seizure of Rs 243 crores in currency, gold, precious metals, liquor, narcotics, and other freebies within the past 10 days following the implementation of the model code of conduct. In the last 24 hours alone, Rs 78 crore in currency and various items have been confiscated.
Comparatively, during the run-up to the 2018 assembly elections, the total amount seized was Rs 103.89 crore. However, this year’s recoveries are on track to surpass that figure.
According to the Election Commission’s data, nearly Rs 56 crore in cash (Rs 55,99,26,994), Rs 2.6 crore worth of liquor, Rs 3.42 crore worth of ganja, and Rs 38.45 crore worth of gold, silver, and diamonds have been seized. In addition, other freebies valued at Rs 70 lakh were confiscated, resulting in a total seizure of over Rs 101 crores (Rs 101,18,17,299).
Telangana is scheduled to vote on November 30, with the election results set to be announced on December 3. The substantial seizure of assets and cash highlights the Election Commission’s efforts to maintain a level playing field and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
