BRS Promises Social Welfare and Economic Support Ahead of Telangana Assembly Elections
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has released its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana, promising a range of social welfare and economic support measures. Some key promises include:
- Increasing social security pension amounts gradually from the current ₹2,016 to ₹5,000 per month over the next five years.
- Enhancing the ‘Rythu Bandhu’ investment support scheme for farmers, raising payments from ₹10,000 per annum per acre to ₹16,000 per annum over the next five years.
- Providing life insurance cover of ₹5 lakh for all 93 lakh families living below the poverty line (BPL), with the government bearing the premium cost.
- Raising the pension for persons with disabilities (Divyang) from ₹4,016 to ₹6,016 over the next five years.
- Offering LPG cylinders at ₹400 each to eligible beneficiaries, with the state government covering the remaining cost.
- Expanding health insurance coverage under the ‘Arogya Sri’ health scheme from ₹5 lakh to ₹15 lakh for all eligible beneficiaries.
K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed confidence that his party would return to power and stated that the promises would be implemented within six to seven months after forming the government. He also mentioned that 90% of the welfare schemes were implemented during his previous term, even though they were not explicitly mentioned in the manifesto.
Other plans outlined in the manifesto include the conversion of residential junior colleges into residential degree colleges, continued support for power and agriculture, and providing additional stimulus if required.
