Chhattisgarh Congress Harnesses Social Media and AI in ‘War Room’ for Elections
As Chhattisgarh gears up for the upcoming elections, the Congress party is making strategic use of social media, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other tools to promote the government’s performance and counter alleged propaganda and fake news from opposition parties. Recognizing the significant influence of social media platforms, content writers, video editors, and telecallers are working diligently in the Congress’s ‘War Room’ to boost their digital presence.
With the BJP boasting a strong IT cell in the political landscape, the Congress is relying on technology to address allegations, combat propaganda, and highlight its achievements. Ayush Pandey, national coordinator of AICC (social media and digital communication), has emphasized that the ‘War Room’ not only focuses on party publicity and state government achievements but also tackles fake news and political allegations.
Mr. Pandey shared insights into the ‘War Room,’ explaining its comprehensive structure. It includes a campaign management unit, ground management unit, data intelligence unit, political intelligence unit, social media management unit, and a call center. The ground campaign management unit focuses on local issues and ensures that the party reaches the beneficiaries of welfare schemes. The data intelligence unit collects data related to booths, organizations, and scheme beneficiaries at the constituency level. The political intelligence unit manages political discussions, responds to opposition allegations, conveys the party’s message, and enhances public trust.
Additionally, the ‘War Room’ is involved in shaping the digital narrative and preparing digital content. A call center, staffed by 70-80 people working in two shifts, makes around 20,000 calls daily.
The Congress leader pointed out that the BJP’s strategy often uses fear tactics and communal issues to influence voters. Despite being in power for 15 years, they tend to focus on emotive issues that may not serve public interests. To counter false information spread through platforms like WhatsApp, the ‘War Room’ has established a fake news monitoring cell, actively tracking and legally addressing fake news.
The ‘War Room’ comprises a team of approximately 120-150 individuals, constantly monitoring and responding to the digital landscape in the lead-up to the elections.
