Afghan migrants, forcibly deported from Iran and facing challenges in Pakistan, are calling for international attention to their plight. Reports from TOLOnews highlight instances of mistreatment by Iranian authorities, with returnees recounting beatings and hardships endured during their time in Iran.
Basir, a recent deportee from Iran, described being beaten by Iranian forces, leaving him injured and unable to lift even lightweight objects. Salahuddin echoed similar sentiments, lamenting the difficulties faced by Afghan migrants seeking livelihood opportunities in Iran.
In Pakistan, Afghan migrants expressed concerns over deportations, even for those holding valid cards. Reza Sazesh highlighted the anxiety among Afghan migrants in Quetta and Islamabad, urging authorities to reconsider deportation processes.
Despite the challenges, the Taliban’s consul in Karachi urged Pakistani authorities to extend the return deadline for Afghan migrants. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, thousands of Afghan migrants have returned from Iran, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has flagged grave human rights violations in Afghanistan, particularly affecting women, girls, and ethnic minorities, necessitating urgent humanitarian aid. With millions of Afghan migrants residing in Iran and Pakistan, the ongoing deportation process has drawn criticism from Amnesty International and other human rights organizations, urging authorities to halt these expulsions.
