The Central government has granted authority to all states and Union Territories, enabling them to take action against three banned groups in Jammu and Kashmir under the UAPA. These groups, namely the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Sumji faction), Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction), and Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, have come under scrutiny.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued notifications directing state governments and Union Territory administrations to exercise powers conferred by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act concerning these unlawful associations.

Recently, the home ministry took a decisive step by extending the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, for a duration of five years. This extension was justified based on the organization’s activities that were deemed to pose a threat to national security and sovereignty.

Additionally, the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Sumji faction) and the Muslim Conference Jammu and Kashmir (Bhat faction) were officially declared as banned groups. Their involvement in anti-India and pro-Pakistan activities led to this stern action by the authorities.
