CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent for Bribery in Uttarakhand
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Yogesh Agarwal, Superintendent of the Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) in the Rudrapur Division of Uttarakhand, for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The arrest followed a complaint alleging that Agarwal demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant for reactivating a suspended GST Identification Number (GSTIN) associated with his wife’s firm.
The CBI initiated an investigation and conducted a successful trap operation, catching Agarwal red-handed while accepting the reduced bribe amount.
Searches at the accused’s premises in Rudrapur and Ambala led to the discovery of incriminating documents, including those from two lockers and bank accounts. The investigation is ongoing.
