Doda Court Frames Charges Against MLA Mehraj Malik for Assault, Intimidation

Doda, September 15: A court in Doda has framed charges against Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) MLA in Jammu & Kashmir, Mehraj-ud-Din Malik, for offences under Sections 132, 351(2), 352 and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to assault or criminal force, criminal intimidation, intentional insult and disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant.

The case had reached the stage of consideration of charges after the accused was proceeded against through Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Doda, on account of his non-appearance before the court.

The accused appeared before the court today in pursuance of the NBWs, following which the matter was taken up for arguments on framing of charges.

The prosecution was represented by Mohd. Sayeed Qureshi, Chief Prosecuting Officer (CPO), Assistant Public Prosecutor, CJM Court, Doda, who submitted that the material available on record disclosed sufficient grounds to proceed against the accused and sought framing of appropriate charges in accordance with law.

The defence was also heard by the court.

After considering the submissions and examining the material available on record, the court found sufficient grounds to proceed with the trial and accordingly framed charges against Mehraj-ud-Din Malik for the offences made out from the material on record.

With the framing of charges, the case has now entered the prosecution evidence stage, and the court has fixed November 5, 2026, for recording of prosecution evidence.
