New Zealand Parliament Approves India Free Trade Agreement, Tariffs to Fall on 95% of Exports

Wellington, September 16, 2026 [VoM News]: The New Zealand Parliament on Wednesday has passed the legislation to implement the country’s free trade agreement with India.

This step by New Zealand has cleared the hurdles, and moved toward a deal that will significantly reduce or remove tariffs on New Zealand exports to the Indian market.

The legislation was approved by 93 votes to 29 with the opposition Labour Party supporting the measure.

Under the agreement, tariffs on around 95 percent of New Zealand exports to India will either be eliminated or substantially reduced, resulting in more than half of duty-free products.
