BREAKING: Donald Trump Urges Volodymyr Zelensky to Call Off Russian Refinery Attacks

WASHINGTON, September 14, 2026 [VoM News]: US President Donald Trump issued a call on Sunday to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to call off attacks on Russian oil refineries and other targets as part of its campaign to disrupt diesel production and flow, which has helped cause a worldwide shortage of the fuel.

Trump made the comment after U.S. diesel prices hit $6 a gallon this weekend for the first time on record. He said he’s spoken to Zelensky about the matter and that Ukraine has other targets.

“Mr. Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia,” Trump told reporters at the Irish Open golf competition at his Doonbeg course.

Ukraine has stepped up missile strikes on Russia’s long-range pipelines and oil and gas production and refining sites in recent months, disrupting Russian fuel supplies and prompting Moscow to curtail diesel exports, which has exacerbated shortages in world markets.

The International Energy Agency said global net exports of diesel and gasoil from Gulf countries in August were a little over a quarter of their pre- Iran war level in February.

The agency said the disruption to Russian refining and nearly a complete halt in products exports had added to the global supply losses.

Ukraine has defended its strikes on Russia’s fuel industry, saying the industry supports Moscow’s war effort.

The war in Iran is also roiling global fuel markets after attacks on oil ships in the Strait of Hormuz, while rising prices are becoming an issue in the US ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Russia and Ukraine launched missile attacks in the early hours of Monday, with Russia reporting casualties and damage near the city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan in western Russia and Kyiv reporting strikes on the city of Odesa and other places in the country.

Ukraine also reported strikes on regions close to the Polish border in the west, while Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces downed 389 Ukrainian drones overnight and Ukraine’s air force said it had downed or neutralized 409 out of 453 launched.
