Google has rolled out its digital wallet application, Google Wallet, in India, enabling users to securely store private information such as loyalty cards, transit passes, and IDs. Despite this introduction, Google has emphasized that the launch of Google Wallet will not disrupt its widely-used UPI application, Google Pay.

Distinguishing between the two, Google Wallet functions as a secure digital wallet for quick access to various cards and passes shared on the app. In contrast, Google Pay serves as a comprehensive financial management tool, enabling users to send money, earn rewards, discover merchant offers, and gain insights into spending habits.

Originally launched in 2011, Google Wallet merged with Android Pay in 2018 to form Google Pay. However, Google had previously introduced a separate UPI payment app named Google Tez, later rebranded as Google Pay. In 2022, Google renamed its global Google Pay app to Google Wallet, aligning its branding across regions.
