
Kishtwar, Jammu Kashmir: Heavy Rain Triggers Landslides, Flash Floods; NH-244 Closed
Kishtwar, July 6 [VoM News]: Early, in the morning hours, reports of landslides and flash floods triggered by the heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab Valley surfaced.
The floody situation with mudslides buried several vehicles near the 540 MW Kwar Hydro Electric Project in Kishtwar district and forcing the closure of the Kishtwar-Doda National Highway (NH-244).
Officials said a massive landslide struck the Kwar Hydro Electric Project site after intense rain, triggering the massive landslides and debris crashing onto the area.
Traffic on NH-244 was also suspended after a flash flood and mudslide hit the Prem Nagar stretch, leaving the highway blocked by mud, rocks and debris.
Videos on social media sirfaced showing the burial of several parked vehicles under the debris and sustained extensive damage
As per details available with VoM News, no casualties have been reported so far.
However, Rescue teams and heavy machinery were immediately deployed to clear the debris and recover the damaged vehicles and Clearance operations are underway also.
