France has taken a significant step by submitting its response to India’s tender for the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine jets destined for the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers, INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya. Defence sources revealed that French officials specializing in international military sales have flown to New Delhi from Paris to submit the response to India’s Letter of Acceptance.

Following the submission, India will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the French bid, evaluating factors such as the commercial offer, aircraft pricing, and contract details. Given that this is a government-to-government agreement, negotiations will proceed between Indian and French government officials.

The Navy Chief has emphasized expediting the project’s timeline for the early finalization and induction of these planes into the inventory. India had previously sent the Letter of Request (LoR) to France, outlining its specific requirements and capabilities desired in the Rafale Marine aircraft for deployment on INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya.

Efforts are being expedited to swiftly sign the acquisition contract, allowing Indian carriers to operate these advanced aircraft, providing New Delhi with a strategic edge in the Indian Ocean region. The approximate value of the aircraft deal is around Euro 5.5 billion, endorsed by the Defence Acquisition Council just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France in July during their Bastille Day parade.

The proposed acquisition involves 22 single-seater Rafale Marine aircraft in addition to four trainer aircraft, aiming to bolster the Indian Navy’s capabilities.
