Former Chief Justice NV Ramana Emphasizes Justice in Society
Former Chief Justice NV Ramana delivered a keynote speech at the “Fight for Justice” Awards in New Delhi, highlighting the role of the judiciary in remedying societal injustices, especially for the less fortunate. He emphasized the responsibility of all branches of government—judiciary, executive, and legislature—to promote justice, avoiding burdens on the judiciary alone.
Ramana stressed the judiciary’s duty to instill confidence in vulnerable sections and ensure the Constitution’s rights are upheld. He expressed privilege in attending the event, aimed at honoring those advocating for justice. Recognizing these champions, he believed, would inspire future generations to address public issues.
Justice, he stated, is fundamental to law, ethics, and human existence, asserting that life without justice would lack meaning and lead to anarchy. He underscored the necessity of a just system for any civilized society’s survival.
