Arabian Sea Merchant Ship Hit by Drone Strike; Crew Safe

An explosion caused by a drone strike ignited a fire on the merchant ship MV Chem Pluto in the Arabian Sea, situated 217 nautical miles off the Porbandar coast. Despite the blast, fortunately, no casualties have been reported among the 20-member crew, predominantly consisting of Indians.

An Indian Coast Guard vessel, ICGS Vikram, is en route to aid the distressed vessel, which was en route from a Saudi Arabian port to Mangaluru, carrying crude oil.

The fire onboard the MV Chem Pluto has been successfully extinguished, as per reports from the area, but the incident has affected the ship’s operations.

The Indian Coast Guard ship has been actively coordinating the situation and has issued a call for assistance to all ships in the vicinity to support the merchant ship in need.

This event follows closely after the recent Indian Navy’s involvement in the evacuation of an injured sailor from the hijacked Malta-flagged cargo vessel, MV Ruen, in the Arabian Sea.

Reports indicated that the MV Ruen had been boarded illegally by six “pirates,” prompting the Indian Navy’s intervention to ensure the safety and security of the vessel and its crew.

The Indian maritime authorities are actively responding to incidents in the Arabian Sea, ensuring the safety and security of vessels navigating through these waters.
