Lebanese Journalist Amal Khalil Killed in Israeli Strike

Lebanese Journalist Amal Khalil Killed in Israeli Strike

BEIRUT, APRIL 23 (VoM News): As per details available with VoM, Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have killed a Lebanese journalist, whereas another was injured.

Journalist Amal Khalil, 43, who was covering developments near the town of Al-Tayri, was killed, whereas freelance photographer Zeinab Faraj, who was accompanying her, sustained injuries and was rescued.

As per officials and Al-Akhbar, the two journalists were reporting from the area when an Israeli strike hit a vehicle ahead of them.

They took shelter in a nearby house, which was subsequently struck, resulting in Khalil’s death.

After the strike, rescue teams, which initially faced difficulty accessing the site, alleged that Israeli forces fired a sound grenade and live rounds even after the strike.

However, the Israeli military denied obstructing the rescue operations but said it was reviewing reports of the journalist’s injury.

This raises serious concerns even after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was announced, which came into effect on April 16. At least five people were reported killed in strikes that day.

Israel’s military put forward a statement that journalists were not deliberately targeted and alleged that it had targeted vehicles believed to be a threat.

So far, more than 2,400 deaths have been reported by Lebanese authorities since hostilities were carried out this year.
