Israel Orders Evacuation of Northern Gaza as Ground Offensive Looms
In a significant escalation of the conflict, Israel issued an order on Friday, mandating the evacuation of over 1.1 million civilians residing in northern Gaza within 24 hours, indicating a forthcoming ground offensive against Hamas militants. The decision raised concerns about the rights of both the unborn child and the choice of the mother in the ongoing conflict.
Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds
Following the evacuation order, thousands of frightened Palestinians began their journey south with their belongings, using various means such as cars, trucks, or donkey carts. However, many hesitated to leave, fearing there was no safe haven. Gaza remains cut off from essential supplies, including food, water, and medical resources, and is enduring a complete power blackout.

The United Nations strongly criticized the evacuation order, emphasizing the potential for a catastrophic human displacement. They urged Israel to reconsider its decision, highlighting that such an evacuation would result in Gaza’s entire population cramming into the already overcrowded southern half of the 40-kilometer-long strip.
Global Concerns and Diplomatic Stances
The United States, while expressing unwavering support for Israel’s actions against Hamas, voiced its concerns about the situation. US National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby pointed out the challenging environment in densely populated Gaza, where approximately one million people reside. The U.S. recognized the region as an active combat zone.
Hamas, an organization previously accused of using civilians as human shields, called on Gaza residents to remain in place, characterizing Israel’s order as an attempt to divide the region and urging people to “hold onto your land.”
Israeli Ground Offensive Plans and Raids
According to Israeli officials, the impending ground offensive aims to dismantle Hamas’s underground terror infrastructure. This comes in the wake of a surprise attack by Hamas fighters who crossed the border and killed around 1,300 Israelis last Saturday.
The Israeli Army disclosed that its forces had conducted multiple localized raids into Gaza ahead of the planned ground offensive. These operations were carried out to eliminate weapons and search for evidence related to the missing hostages held by Hamas.
Casualties and Unconfirmed Reports
Hamas reported on Friday that Israel’s intense bombardment of the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of 13 hostages, including foreigners. However, no confirmation came from Israel regarding these reports.
In an unrelated incident, an employee of the Israeli Embassy in Beijing was attacked with a knife on the same day and later hospitalized. The cause of the attack remains unclear.
