US Senate Rebukes Trump on Iran; Approves Resolution Directing Withdrawal Of US Forces

US Senate Rebukes Trump on Iran; Approves Resolution Directing Withdrawal Of US Forces

Washington, June 24, 2026 [VoM News]: In a major political setback for US President Donald Trump, a significant development has surfaced as the Senate approved a war powers resolution directing the president to end US military conflict with Iran, Reuters reported.

The figure of 50-48 vote, became the tune of the resolution, with a small number of Republicans joining most Democrats in support.

For the first time, both the chambers of Congress have passed a directive under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 seeking the end and withdrawal of US forces from ongoing hostilities.

Though the legal experts remain divided on whether the Congress can compel the executive branch to comply, which seems to be ending with court’s decision only. However, the administration has called the measure as unconstitutional and not legally binding.

One thing is crystal clear that this resolution/voting reflects the growing unease and strong resentment within Congress camps & some Republicans too over the conflict.
