US Proposes Pilot Plan for Partial Israeli Withdrawal From Lebanon
VoM News Desk, June 24, 2026 [VoM News]: The United States has reportedly proposed a pilot programme under which Israel would withdraw from selected areas of southern Lebanon, with the Lebanese army taking control and ensuring no Hezbollah presence in those locations.
According to Israeli military radio, eight hours of talks in Washington were constructive, with progress reported on discussions around a limited Israeli pullback. The assessment contrasts with Israel’s ambassador, who had earlier described the negotiations as a “train wreck”.
Oil Prices Fall as Strait of Hormuz Reopening Boosts Supply Outlook
The proposal follows Israel’s expanded military presence beyond the Litani River near Nabatieh after the US-Iran memorandum of understanding was signed. Israeli reports suggest some of the newly occupied areas could potentially form part of an initial withdrawal arrangement.
No final breakthrough has been announced, but the discussions indicate a possible pathway towards reducing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, separate from the wider Iran-related negotiations.
