- USA to face South Africa, West Indies, and England in Group 2.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosts, USA, are set to take on South Africa as the Super Eights stage begins at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Wednesday. USA has showcased impressive performances, starting with a seven-wicket victory over Canada and a thrilling Super Over win against Pakistan. Despite a rain-affected match against Ireland and a close loss to India, USA advanced to the Super Eights with five points from four games.
Captain Monank Patel expressed confidence ahead of the clash, saying, “Our journey has been incredible, and reaching the Super 8s is a huge milestone. We are ready to take on the challenge and will give our best to continue this run.”
By making it to the Super Eights, USA has also secured a place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Venu Pisike, Chairman of USA Cricket, stated, “Qualifying for the Super 8s in our maiden T20 World Cup appearance highlights the growth of cricket in the USA and sets a foundation for future success.”
The Super 8 stage features eight teams split into two groups. USA is in Group 2 alongside South Africa, West Indies, and defending champions England. All matches will be played across the Caribbean islands.
South Africa, despite not winning any ICC tournament, is a strong team with top-form players like Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Henrich Klassen, and David Miller. USA’s top-order batsmen, Monank and Aaron Jones, along with left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar and former Kiwi Corey Anderson, provide hope for a competitive performance.
