The incident occurred outside the stadium at Proctor High School in Utica, New York, on Saturday, September 9, at approximately 4:10 p.m.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams reported that the group involved in the altercation had been turned away from the varsity football game against Binghamton High School just moments before the shooting. Another member of the school’s law enforcement had refused to allow them into the stadium, suspecting that something was amiss with the group.
