YouTuber Savukku Shankar Faces More Cases, Remanded Till May 17

Chennai Police have added two more cases against YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar, who remains in judicial custody until May 17, following his initial arrest for defamatory comments against women police officials. These new cases are filed in response to complaints by journalist Sandhya Ravishankar and Tamilar Munnetra Padai leader Veeralakshmi.
Journalist Sandhya Ravishankar took to social media to express gratitude as Chennai Police registered a case based on her complaint after six years. The charges against Shankar include IPC sections 294(b), 354D, 506(i), 509, and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Harassment of Women Act.
Shankar was arrested by the Coimbatore City Cybercrime wing following a complaint by a Sub-Inspector for making objectionable remarks against women cops. However, an accident occurred en route to the city, where Shankar was arrested. Amidst these developments, Shankar’s mother filed a habeas corpus petition alleging custodial violence, while his employee accused police interference in Savukku Media’s operations.
