    11 Dead in Parachute Training Aircraft Crash Near Nancy France

    PARIS, June 29: A civilian plane carrying a French parachute training school’s occupants crashed and killed 11 people on the ground and aboard on Friday morning near the Nancy-Essey aerodrome in eastern France, local government sources said.

    The aircraft plummeted to earth at approximately 11 am (1000 GMT) not far from the eastern city of Tomblaine. An estimated 11 people, which included five students, five instructors and the pilot, lost their lives during the impact, according to government sources.

    The Germany-flagged plane crashed in a grassy patch beside a landing strip at about 100 metres from a neighbourhood as well as two roads, officials have said.

    Cause of the incident remains unknown for now. “Emergency workers arrived at the scene without delay and are now working on gathering testimony,” Yves Sguy told the press. A preliminary inquiry was opened by authorities to determine the reason for the mishap and will be headed by a prosecutor from Nancy, authorities have said.

    French interior minister, Bruno Retailleau has visited the crash location, whereas medical and psychological assistance was brought on to aid people that have been witnesses to the accident in the aerodrome and families of those victims that have passed away.

    In addition, law enforcement asked the public to avoid the crash site area so as not to block help and assistance work.
