The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken swift action following the arrest of its assistant director by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai. Sources reveal that the FSSAI has suspended the assistant director immediately and initiated the process of derecognition of Reliable Analytical Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., allegedly involved in the bribery scandal.
The CBI arrested four individuals, including the FSSAI assistant director and representatives of a private company, in connection with a bribery case amounting to Rs 1.20 lakh. The assistant director, along with others, allegedly demanded bribes from food business operators for the dishonest discharge of public duties.
In a coordinated operation, the CBI apprehended the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. Subsequent searches yielded significant amounts of cash, gold, and incriminating documents from the accused’s premises. The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody until May 8, 2024, as investigations continue.
This development underscores the FSSAI’s commitment to combat corruption and maintain the integrity of food safety standards in India.
