In the IPL 2024 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) matched the record for the highest score of 220+ runs in IPL history, joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Despite a century partnership by Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar, RCB narrowly missed victory by a single run against KKR at Eden Gardens.

Batting first, led by Shreyas Iyer, KKR posted 222/6 in their 20 overs. This equals KKR’s highest score against RCB, previously achieved in the inaugural IPL in 2008. This is the third time KKR has scored over 220 runs in IPL history, the other instances being 272/7 against Delhi Capitals in 2024 and 223/6 against Rajasthan Royals in 2013. CSK and SRH have also achieved this feat three times each.

In the match, RCB’s captain Faf Du Plessis chose to field after winning the toss. Phil Salt’s quick 48 off 14 balls boosted KKR’s score early on. Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh contributed crucial runs, reaching 222/6. Cameron Green was RCB’s top bowler with figures of 2/35.

RCB’s chase started poorly with early wickets of Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis. However, a 102-run partnership between Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar revived their hopes. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine’s bowling turned the game around, restricting RCB to 221/9 in 20 overs. Despite Karn Sharma’s late efforts, RCB fell short by one run.

Andre Russell was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round performance. Following this win, KKR climbed to second place in the standings with five wins and two losses, totaling 10 points. RCB remains at the bottom with one win and seven losses, accumulating just two points.
