Zojila Pass reopens on trial basis after month-long closure

After a month-long closure, the Zojila Pass, connecting Jammu and Kashmir to Ladakh, has reopened for vehicular movement on a trial basis. The pass, one of the highest and most treacherous motorable routes globally, resumed operations following a snow clearance operation conducted on the stretch, allowing traffic to flow.

    Limited Access Granted

The Border Road Organisation (BRO) announced that while 4×4 vehicles were permitted, only 37 light motor vehicles were allowed to ply through the pass on a trial basis

On Tuesday, SDM Drass, Vishal Atri, accompanied by SHO Drass, SW Namgyal, conducted a ground survey of the Zojila axis as directed by higher authorities to evaluate the road conditions.

    Facilitating Essential Commodities

The reopening of the Zojila Pass is expected to ease the transportation of essential commodities to the region, benefiting locals, particularly during the ongoing holy month of Ramazan.

The pass had remained closed since February 18 due to heavy snowfall, disrupting connectivity and posing challenges for transportation in the region.

    Awaiting Further Details

While the pass has reopened on a trial basis, further details regarding its operational status and any subsequent developments are awaited.
