CBI Opposes Bail for Manish Sisodia Amid High-Profile Investigations
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday opposed the bail plea of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a Delhi court, citing ongoing investigations in the Delhi Excise policy case and the potential influence of high-profile individuals.
Special judge MK Nagpal announced his decision after hearing submissions from senior advocate Mohit Mathur for Manish Sisodia and CBI’s Additional Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta.
Arguments for Bail: Sisodia’s Legal Defense
Senior advocate Mohit Mathur argued for Sisodia’s bail, citing the Supreme Court’s observation that 13 months have passed without bail being granted. He emphasized that Sisodia is not a flight risk, poses no threat of tampering with evidence, and that the SC granted bail to another accused based on similar grounds.
CBI’s Opposition and Concerns
However, APP Pankaj Gupta opposed the bail plea, stating that the accused may influence witnesses and hinder the ongoing investigation. He highlighted the importance of preventing any potential interference with the legal process, especially considering the involvement of high-profile individuals.
The court has listed the matter for further arguments on March 22, including submissions from the Enforcement Directorate. Despite Sisodia’s legal defense arguing for bail based on various factors, including the absence of financial losses, the CBI remains adamant in its stance against granting bail due to the ongoing investigation and concerns regarding potential interference.
