The CAA rules, introduced by the Narendra Modi government in 2019 and passed by Parliament, aim to confer Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014. Following the protests sparked by the passage of CAA in 2019, the implementation was delayed for over four years.
An official source noted that the regulations are prepared, and an online portal is set up for the entire digital process. Applicants will need to disclose their entry year into India without travel documents, and no additional documentation will be required. The CAA’s implementation signals a significant step in India’s commitment to religious freedom and humanitarian values.
