The Indian men’s blind cricket team is set to engage in a thrilling five-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, marking the commencement of the Samarth Championship for Blind Cricket. This international bilateral series, scheduled from March 11 to March 15 at Karnail Singh Stadium, holds a significant purpose beyond the cricket field.
Samarth Championship for Blind Cricket:Inauguration Ceremony with Distinguished Guests
The bilateral blind men’s cricket series kicks off with a grand inauguration ceremony, graced by notable dignitaries. Among them are UN Resident Coordinator for India, Shombi Sharp, serving as the Chief Guest, along with Commodore R Joseph, Minister Counsellor (Defence) at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in India. Also in attendance is Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Chairman of CABI & Founder Managing Trustee of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, along with Shailendra Yadav, General Secretary of CABI.
“It is an honor to host the Sri Lankan Blind Cricket Team in Delhi for a 5 T20 Series. This presents an opportunity for both teams to showcase their cricketing talents and entertain audiences. The collaboration with the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) is poised to elevate the stature of this game for the visually impaired in India,” expresses Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, emphasizing the significance of this international cricketing event.
Samarth Championship for Blind Cricket:Promoting Inclusivity and Raising Awareness
Beyond the competitive spirit on the cricket field, the series aims to amplify awareness and advocate for inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. Organized by the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) in partnership with the ‘Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled’ and the ‘Cricket Association for the Blind in India’ (CABI), this initiative transcends the boundaries of sport.
The Samarth Championship for Blind Cricket not only celebrates the remarkable talents of visually impaired cricketers but also serves as a platform to foster a more inclusive society.
