Murad Ali Shah Elected as 25th CM of Pakistan’s Sindh

In a significant political development, Murad Ali Shah, a representative of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has been elected as the 25th Chief Minister of Sindh. The election took place during a session at the Sindh Assembly, where Murad Ali Shah secured a decisive two-thirds majority with 112 votes. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan candidate, Ali Khurshidi, garnered 36 votes amid a boycott by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

The nomination papers submitted by Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Saleh Shah, and Naeem Kharal on behalf of Murad Ali Shah paved the way for his candidacy. In a prior session, PPP’s Syed Awais Qadir Shah and Anthony Naveed were elected as the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively.

As the largest single party in the Sindh Assembly with 112 members, the PPP solidifies its political dominance in the province.

Historic Victory for Maryam Nawaz in Punjab

Simultaneously, in Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz, the nominee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), made history by becoming the first female Chief Minister. Despite a boycott by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Maryam Nawaz secured victory with 220 votes.

These elections mark significant political milestones in the governance of Pakistan’s provinces, highlighting the democratic processes at play.
