Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi Passes Away at 86
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, aged 86, passed away in Mumbai today, two days after suffering a cardiac arrest. Hospitalized at PD Hinduja Hospital, Joshi served as Maharashtra Chief Minister from 1995 to 1999, becoming the first Shiv Sena leader to hold the top post in the state. His funeral will take place at the Shivaji Park crematorium later today. Joshi, with a political career spanning over 40 years, was also a Member of Parliament and served as the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.

Elected as Maharashtra Chief Minister in 1995, he played a crucial role in shaping the state’s political landscape. His demise marks the end of an era in Maharashtra politics.

Born on December 2, 1937, in Nandvi, Raigad district, Maharashtra, Manohar Joshi began his career as a teacher before entering politics. He served Mumbai in various capacities, including Mayor, and went on to lead the state as Chief Minister. Joshi’s contributions extended to the national level, where he served as the Lok Sabha Speaker. Today, Maharashtra mourns the loss of a seasoned political leader who left an indelible mark on its political journey.
