Make the Road Condemns Devastating SCOTUS Ruling Subjecting up to 1.3 Million Immigrants to Deportation
(NEW YORK, N.Y.), June 25, 2026: Today, the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump administration by ending Temporary Protected Status protections for Haiti and Syria, and with implications that could end the program for individuals from a total of 14 countries.
TPS is a vital program that has granted 1.3 million immigrants fleeing violence and insecurity in countries like Haiti and Syria the ability to live and work legally in the country.
Theo Oshiro, Co-Executive Director of Make the Road States, a pro-immigrant and pro-working class organization with over 70,000 members, issued the following reaction:
“Ending Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from countries like Haiti and Syria—who fled violence to seek refuge and opportunity—is cruel, unjust, and an affront to the values of our nation.
Make the Road Action Responds to Trump’s Phony, Deceiving State of the Union
Once seen as the land of safety and possibility, our country and those at the helm are coming after the very people who help our country thrive.
With today’s ruling, the Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to strip potentially 1.3 million people of legal protections as they escalate a de-documentation agenda.
Families deserve stability and safety—not deportation and permanent separation. Congress must now do its job and act to create a pathway to citizenship so immigrant families can live safely and thrive.”
