Cricket Board Turmoil: Zaka Ashraf Resigns as PCB Chairman

In a major setback to Pakistan Cricket, Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, declared his resignation after a managing committee meeting in Lahore. Ashraf, who took over the PCB chief role from Najam Sethi in June the previous year, made the announcement following a tenure marked by challenges and disappointments.

Acknowledgments and Resignation Announcement

During the committee meeting, Ashraf expressed gratitude to PCB members and Patron Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for their support. The Chairman tendered his resignation to the honorable Prime Minister, concluding the meeting on a note of appreciation and thanks for the confidence and trust vested in him.

Unfulfilled Expectations and Cricket Setbacks

Zaka Ashraf’s tenure witnessed a lack of significant achievements for Pakistan Cricket. Despite high hopes, the team fell short in major tournaments, including the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup in India. The failure led to a series of changes, with Babar Azam resigning as captain, paving the way for Shan Masood (Test) and Shaheen Afridi (T20I). Additionally, Mohammad Hafeez assumed the role of Pakistan team director. The recent resignations of key figures at the National Cricket Academy further add to the cricket board’s challenges.

As Pakistan Cricket faces a period of transition, the resignation of Zaka Ashraf marks a pivotal moment, raising questions about the future direction and leadership of the national cricket board.
