India Unveils Air India’s First Airbus A350, Signifying Growth in Global Aviation

On the inaugural day of Wings India 2024, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated India’s and Air India’s first Airbus A350 aircraft. This event not only marks the integration of a state-of-the-art aircraft into Air India’s fleet but also underscores India’s rising prominence in the global aviation industry.

Described as a “game-changer” by Air India’s CEO and Managing Director, Cambell Wilson, the A350 is expected to enhance passenger experience, open up new routes, and facilitate expansion. The introduction of the A350 aligns with Air India’s comprehensive transformation plan, aiming to renew its fleet, expand its global route network, enhance services, and regain its status as a global aviation leader.

The Airbus A350, equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines for optimal performance and fuel efficiency, offers a range of up to 9,700nm, enabling non-stop flights from India to destinations like the United States, Canada, and Australia. Its features include wider cabins, larger windows, mood lighting, and advanced entertainment systems, setting a new standard for passenger experience in Indian airlines.

Air India’s A350-900 configuration includes 28 private suites in a 1-2-1 arrangement in the business class, with direct aisle access, sliding privacy doors, and the flexibility to convert into full-sized beds. The Premium Economy cabin boasts 24 wide seats in a 2-4-2 layout, while the Economy class offers 264 seats in a 3-4-3 arrangement, providing a comfortable and stylish flying experience.

The A350 will commence commercial service on January 22, 2024, initially operating domestically for crew familiarization on flights to and from Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Following this, the aircraft will be deployed on international routes.

Air India’s first A350, registered as VT-JRA, is the initial delivery of the 20 Airbus A350-900 on order, with five more scheduled for delivery through March 2024. Additionally, Air India has orders for 250 new aircraft with Airbus, including 20 A350-1000 models. This significant addition signifies India’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure and expanding its global air connectivity.
